We are taught to suffer in silence, hide your troubles from others and wear a facade of calm and peace for others to see. Don’t let anyone see the pain and dirt under the outer mask. Be strong and work through your trouble in private never showing any weakness.

When we do this those who could help us with our troubles cannot. Those who would benefit from knowing that others share their problems never know that they are not alone. Those who need to see Jesus working in us miss the opportunity.

Transparency about our troubles is difficult and selfish, uncovering our warts is hard. Pride stands in the way. Our sin can keep others from the love of the Lord. Our sin can hinder others, not just us.
