We cringe when we watch the news stations. There is seldom anything good to report and when there seems to be a good story it all too often is tainted with sin. The world today is willing to accept platitudes and intentions as virtues, to accept mediocrity as the best we can do, to accept failure to be virtuous as an honorable attempt.

Nothing is further from the truth. We are to strive to be virtuous, we are to strive to be like Jesus and our failure to reach our goals is just that, failure. Of course the Lord forgives us of our sins and failures. This, however, is not justification to accept our failures and our sins, this is not an open invitation to continue in our filth knowing that we are forgiven. No, this should be the impetus we need to keep on trying to emulate Christ. The act of being forgiven should push us to greater effort to do the will of the Forgiver.

We serve and worship a holy, virtuous God and should be striving every day to be worthy of His forgiveness. As we climb through the muck and mire of this world we will fall and we will fail. He is faithful to raise us back up, to help us to come ever closer to Him.
