Time is the one facet of our lives over which we have no control. The hour hand moves relentlessly around the dial in only one direction. There is no way to go back to what happened in the past and change anything. Our mistakes can’t be undone; they can only be forgiven. Our words can’t be unheard; they can only be regretted.

However, there is a greater truth at work here. We can learn from the mistakes of the past, we can repent of the sins, the bad decisions, the hateful words spoken in anger or haste or thoughtlessness. By itself, this changes nothing. We all have regrets and without some type of action on our part those things we regret doing will not stop being done and there is only One who can truly forgive, only One who holds the key to our peace and joy.

By the grace of God, our past can be washed clean and our future can be assured. Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins with His sacrifice. Not only did He die for our sins, He rose again to be with the Father and sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in each of us to seal us to Him. If we will accept Jesus as our savior and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, we will have peace, joy and eternal life.
